Crown Reduction/Thinning

Richardson Tree Surgery is proud to offer trusted and reliable Crown Reduction and Crown Thinning services – the most popular services we offer.

The crown of a tree is what catches the force of storms; it acts as a sail, especially when in leaf, and when the wind blows, the crown catches the wind. When wind catches the crown, it can cause limbs to fail and break off, or the tree itself to uproot. Crown Reduction can therefore reduce the possibility of such damage, ensuring that it stays safe, healthy, and well-shaped, by reducing the radius of the crown.

A similar but different service is Crown Thinning, where the density of leaves is reduced – ideal for trees in good vigour, or that have a shape which is looking to be kept.

We’re able to remove trees of any size, from smaller garden trees to large trees in gardens or public spaces, provided we have permission to do so.

The leaves and wood removed is either recycled, or taken to nearby farms, carpenters, and lumberyards. We’ll leave the area tidy and remove all chippings, twigs, and fallen leaves, though can leave wood behind if required/requested! We have access to all necessary specialist equipment, and have the licences, experience, and insurance required to operate these in a safe, swift, and considerate manner. This includes items such as safety gear, climbing equipment, chainsaws, cherry pickers, and more.

For trees in tighter spaces, or where there’s a risk of damage to buildings, breakage of glass, or garden ornaments which cannot be moved, we remove the tree in a slower and more methodical process, piece by piece, using rigging.

Richardson Tree Surgery clients regularly tell us that they’d never have known we’d visited, or that the tree had ever been there, with our thorough garden cleaning service removing all traces of our visit.
